Dedication of the Buffalo Soldier Memorial Veterans Day, 10:00 AM Wed. Nov. 11 - Concordia Cemetery THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO WITNESS A HISTORIC EVENT! Concordia Cemetery 3700 E. Yandell

Yandell Details: Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 10:00 am Who Can attend?: The public and all military veterans Cost: Free Come celebrate Veterans Day at the new Buffalo Soldier Memorial and be a part of this historic event! There is a new Buffalo Soldier Memorial to be dedicated at Concordia Cemetery, a Texas State Historical Cemetery. The Memorial will have 42 beautiful engraved Granite markers and several 100 engraved bricks, purchased by businesses and private individuals, to recognize the Buffalo Soldiers who are buried in Concordia Cemetery. There will also be a plaque recognizing all Buffalo Soldiers that are buried at Ft. Bliss and in Juarez, Mexico. The ceremony will include distinguished guest speakers the 1st African American Sergeant Major of the Army - Gene C. McKinney and other dignitaries from Ft. Bliss, Veterans Organizations City, County, and State of Texas. In addition there will also be a wreath-laying ceremony to honor all U.S. Military Veterans. Join us after the ceremony at the McCall Neighborhood Center, located at 3231 Wyoming Ave. Where there will be a precipitation will be open to all. This memorial never would have been possible without the efforts and leadership of the El Paso Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club, Concordia Heritage Association, G & H Monuments, Border Group, El Paso Historical Commission, the West Texas Community Supervisions and Corrections Department, Donnie W. Brown Chapter 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association, just to name a few. Come celebrate Veterans Day and another chapter in El Paso's history at the newest, and one of the most beautiful, memorials in El Paso, the Buffalo Soldier Memorial! Also available are Buffalo Soldier Memorial bricks for $50 ea. These bricks can have your name or some else's name engraved on the brick that will be used in the Buffalo Soldier Memorial. If you or your group would like to buy one or more bricks call Mack at Short History Of Buffalo Soldier: The Beginning African Americans have served proudly in every great American war. In 1866, through an act of Congress, legislation was adopted to create six all African American Army units. The units were identified as the 9th and 10th cavalry and the 38th, 39th, 40th, and 41st infantry regiments. The four infantry regiments were later reorganized to form the 24th and 25th infantry regiments.
THE GROUNDBREAKING Concordia Cemetery new "Buffalo Soldier Memorial" Groundbreaking Ceremony was an incredible experience. 150+ attendees witnessed the Ft Bliss color guard, speeches from the El Paso County Historical Commission, the Concordia Heritage Association, the Buffalo Soldier Motorcycle Club, and the Adult Probation Department in El Paso. The dedication of the newest memorial to the Heroic Buffalo Soldiers that is being built at Concordia Cemetery, a "Texas State Historical Cemetery." will be completed by November 2009.
